Scrivener v3 does not show line breaks in Comment tooltip

I noticed when moving from Scrivener v1 to v3 (for Windows) that the comments hover preview does not reflect any line breaks within the comment, so comments may look like one run-on sentence. Would be nice if it could display like in v1.

Not sure what you mean?

It’s when you hover with your mouse over the body text that has the comment, the comment pops up in a hover preview box.

You’re right but it is text amount dependent. A little text every new line starts on own line a lot then lines run into each other. I primarilarily look at comments in the inspector so not an issue for me.

I’ve had the same thought, so I’m glad you’ve raised this as something to improve, @J_onn_J_onzz.

Though I rarely use Scrivener’s Composition Mode (F11), I do commonly close the Binder and Inspector when I write. In this configuration, I rely on the Comment tooltip.

In most cases, the comment text is a single sentence or paragraph, which works just fine because there are no line breaks. Less commonly, I will have two or more paragraphs where I’ve left myself detailed notes on a needed revision. The tooltip becomes hard to use because the paragraphs are replaced with a solid block of text, forcing me to open the Comments inspector, which breaks the creative flow.

That said, it’s not the end of the world to have this limitation. Still, it’s a bit of friction that can take me out of writing because I have to open the Inspector. It would be nice if this could be improved upon.

Thanks for the report, @J_onn_J_onzz. It does look like we lost something along the way, with this particular tooltip. I’ll go through and see if there are any others that adjustment, and write it up for improvement.

As a bit of an aside, you might consider disabling the Open comments in Inspector if possible setting, toward the bottom of the Editing: Options settings tab. With that off, if the inspector is closed it will switch to using a pop-up interface that not only formats it fully, but allows quick editing.

That’s pretty cool. Thanks, Amber.
