Sorry,m I didn’t know where to post this thought of mine.
I have an iPad 1 which I use mainly to read ebook and pdf documents.
Apple release iOS 6, but iPad 1 is not compatible with it, so I cannot update it.
What will be the position of the future Scrivener for iPad? Will I be able to use it on an iPad 1 with iOS 5?
Scrivener for iOS will require iOS 6, so will not be compatible with the iPad 1, sorry. The main reason for this is that iOS 6 has made a new basic rich text engine available, making it much easier for us to provide rich text capabilities without having to write our own text engine.
I am not particularly happy that I have been waiting so long and working with lame work arounds on the the iPad. The lack of RTF really blows. Now I see that iOS6 will be the only version supported. I love Scrivener and might have to buy a newer iPad to I can get the functionality I require, but I am really very sad I HAVE to have iOS6 to support.
Gosh, I’m one of those who have not upgraded to iOS 6 – sticking with 5 - because I want to retain Google Maps. So, Keith, you’re forcing the issue: it’s either Scrivener-iPad or Google Maps. Tough choice.
I can understand the frustration of requiring a new OS level but…not having to write your own text editing support is a huge bonus for the developers. Possibly enough to be the difference between dream and reality, in terms of if the iPad version ever gets built.
