Scrivener won't open in MacOS15.4.1 (24E263)

Scrivener won’t launch. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it twice with no luck. I have a new M4 and it loaded fine, I even used Scrivener a time or two with new projects. I have rebooted several times as well. I had installed the most recent version. I did not delete Scrivener from my older MacBook but I haven’t used that since I installed Scrivener on my new one. Today I went to use Scrivener and nothing happens. Help!

Truly nothing at all happens? No crash? No error message? No bouncing icon in your Dock?

15.5 is out. Maybe update and see if it is still doing it. I have a M1 MacBook Pro and having no problems. It opens and runs ok.

I have tried to open it in Finder and with the icon. It appears to want to open but it doesn’t. I do get the dot but when I click on the windows drop down it says there are no windows open. I’ve been using Scrivener for ages and I’ve never seen anything like this.

Are you running any security software? That’s the kind of behavior we see on the Windows side when the user’s antivirus has Scrivener quarantined.

Maybe that is precisely the case, but it is not known that this is okay (and normal Mac behaviour)? The main indicator there would be that when you click on the icon in the Dock, you see “Scrivener” printed up by the  menu, and if to the right of that you can open the File menu and open a project, well, there you go.

Of course another way of launching software (if necessary) is to double-click on any project in Finder, that you want to load.

Ah, yes. To be more precise, you’ll get this behavior if you uncheck
Scrivener → Settings → General → Startup →
“Reopen projects that were open on quit” and
“Show template chooser when there are no projects open.”
