Scrivenings-Changing order of appeareance?

Hi!
Would anybody know if there is any way to change the order in which Scrivenings appear, pls?

To me they are only displayed in the order in which they appear in the Binder. When I use the Outliner and change the order of scenes based on a column and then select the scenes, I would expect them to be displayed in that order as scrivenings, but the scrivenings only appear in the order in which they appear in the Binder.

Hello karelt. You may find that Collections will be a more useful tool since you can experiment with different document arrangements. Section 10.2 of the Scrivener manual covers using collections. You can access a PDF of the manual via Scrivener’s Help menu.

Thank you for your reply, @RuthS ! It took me a moment to realize how to apply it, but yes indeed: creating a standard collection, manually moving the items around, then selecting them will display scrivenings in the desired order. It would be more convenient to be able to do that from the Outliner, which gives me quickly the desired order using columns. Hopefully I will be able to figure out how to achieve the same ordering with RegEx in Collection search.

This is possible, most easily with the split editor:

  1. Select one of the split view options, if it’s not already on: View ▸ Editor Layout ▸ Split Horizontally or ▸ Split Vertically (or click the button in the right of the editor header, holding the Alt key to change the split layout)
  2. In the outliner editor, set Navigate â–¸ Outliner Selection Affects â–¸ Other Editor (or click the button in the editor footer, just left of where it states the number of items)

Selections in the outliner will now load in the other; once you have a multiple selection there, set it to Scrivenings view and it will remember that. With this, you can sort the outliner and then make your selection, and it will load using the order from the outliner.

Depending how you work, you might also want to set Navigate ▸ Binder Selection Affects ▸ to only affect the outliner editor, so that binder clicks won’t change your Scrivenings session.

Thank you for your reply, @MimeticMouton . Sadly it does not work for me. I have already tried this, but I tried it again following your exact steps and the result is that the scrivenings really appear only in the order in which they appear in the Binder. see screenshot:

I am going to answer my own question now, LOL.
@MimeticMouton I believe the Binder selection was clashing with what we were after. When I set the Binder Selection Affects… like on the screenshot below, it works!
I wouldn’t have ever thought of that. Thank you @MimeticMouton

P.S. the result:

Oh good, I’m glad you got it working! I know there are some bugs about the sorted selection behaviour on Windows at the moment, but I had given that set of steps a try before posting, so I thought it might do for you. Ultimately there ought to be an easy way to jump straight to your sorted collection within the same editor, but those steps aren’t working correctly right now, unfortunately. I hope you find this set up with the split editor smooths the process!
