Scroller in full screen composition mode?

Hi,

Question about the scrollbar in composition mode: No matter what colors I choose for paper/text etc, including the default ones, I can’t seem to be able to view any other scroller than the system one.
The “auto-hiding” and “minimalist” versions both seem totally invisible (which seems a bit overly minimalist if you ask me…)

Am I doing something wrong here or is the non-system scroller broken?

Thanks,

Hi,

No, they should all be working, although you won’t see any of them until there is enough text for the view to need to scroll. The auto-hiding and minimalist scrollers only appear when you scroll over them, by the way.

All the best,
Keith

Hm. I get all that. Text is longer than one screen, and I do scroll up and down (the two-finger swipe) but still no trace of any handle telling me where I am…

I would post a screenshot, but then again a screenshot of no handle doesn’t tell you much does it…

By the way, I get this on both my Lion and my Snow Leopard machines. Only scroller I can get is if I use the system one, and since what I’m a after is a clutter-free text-only screen I’d like not to have to use that one…

Any advice appreciated.

Oh. Wait. No I see. They appear when you hover them. Aha.

I must admit I read your advice as they’ll show up when scrolling, which would be the intuitive thing if you ask me (and the one corresponding to how lion behaves per default, too).

Here’s a suggestion, then: Since most scrolling takes place using the mouse wheel or the two-finger swipe, it would be great if the auto-hiding and minimalist scrollers appeared when scrolling rather when hovering them. The information is most needed as I scroll through a document — to know how far from the beginning or end I’m going — and since Lion seems to be encouraging people not to use the handles to scroll it would be good if Scrivener followed the same method.
Also, if you set paper and background to the same color (which I do, to get as clutter-free a view as possible) it’s virtually impossible to find the exact location to hover to get the scroller to appear.

Thanks again,

/LA.

If you want the behaviour where the scroller appears when you scroll, you should use the regular scroller on Lion (assuming you are using Lion’s new auto-hidden scrollers). I’ve fixed it for 2.1.1 so that Lion’s scrollers in composition mode will use a dark or light style depending on the colour of the background. There are no plans to update the minimalist or auto-hiding scrollers to show when scrolling at the moment, though, sorry.

All the best,
Keith
