I’m planning to sell my very first how-to ebook through the Kindle Store. I know I can get a higher percentage of royalties through Kindle than I could through the third-party vendors Smashwords represents, and I would also prefer to run all my revenue (if any!) through a single vendor. I was thinking that if someone really wanted my ebook in ePub, Word doc, PDF or other format, I could tell them to buy the Kindle edition, present me with proof of purchase, and I’ll send them another copy in the alternate format of their choice at no additional cost. Scrivener makes it so easy to compile multiple file formats that it’s no skin off my nose. I could even include the link to downloadable versions of these files within the body of the Kindle book…
Would that be a reasonable compromise? the customer actually comes out ahead, because they still have the Kindle version too.
