Shared registration problem

I’m baffled. I just put my copy of Scrivener for the Mac on my wife’s Mac. It runs properly so far EXCEPT that I can’t get it registered on her Mac. I’ve entered my own registration name and number on her machine, but no luck. No matter what I try, I get the same “invalid” message. Obviously I’m doing something wrong, but although I’ve prowled the Forum looking for a solution, nothing seems to help.

As I recall, I got my copy of Scrivener from L&L about seven years ago, and not through esellerate. Does this make a difference in what I need to do?

What do I need to do to set things up so that my wife and I can both use this excellent program?

Thank you,
Ray C

If you purchased the licence that long ago and never upgraded, it’s a licence for the 1.x version of Scrivener. The problem then is likely just that you’ve downloaded and installed the current Scrivener 2.6 on your wife’s computer, and the old 1.x licence won’t work with it. 2.0 was a major overhaul of Scrivener’s interface and features released in November 2010, and was a paid update.

You can upgrade to a 2.x licence at a discount through our store here. You’ll need to enter the email address associated with your 1.x licence, so if you don’t have that, drop a note to sales AT literatureandlatte DOT com with your name (and the order number if you have it) and we’ll do our best to look that up for you and update it if needed.

You can also still download the 1.x version from our support page, although please note that this version does not have support for OS X 10.7 or higher. (It may run, but there are likely to be bugs, particularly related to Full Screen mode, as OS X Lion introduced its own feature by this name that conflicted with Scrivener’s.)

Hello, and thank you for your rapid reply!

I did upgrade, and I’m using version 2.6.
And so is my wife, since she is using my copy.

Also, I see that I can not see my current registration number by looking at Scrivener itself. I gave her Mac the number I have stored in 1Password for my copy. How can I check to see whether the 2.6 number is actually the same as what my 2.6. is using? Or can you send my my current name and number so I can plug them into her Mac?

(She is still using Mavericks while I am using Yosemite, by the way. That would make no difference, would it?)

Many thanks!
Ray C

Yosemite v. Mavericks wouldn’t make a difference, no. If you email our sales address, we can look up your licence and send you a copy of the purchase receipt with all that info on it. (Since we’ll need your name and email to look up the info, it’s better to do it via our support address than on the public forum.)
