When using single quotes within double quotes (or single inverted commas within double, if you prefer), the opening single quote mark is facing the wrong way. E.g., this quote from Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold, as if spoken by a character:
“’The sea is calm tonight. The tide is full, the moon lies fair upon the straights.’”
