Sometimes mouse-click places the cursor & shows it, sometimes it doesn't

I’ve seen similar problems logged, but mostly dated before Scrivener 3 for Windows, so I’m posting a new topic in the hope it will be logged, and/or someone can help. I’m a longstanding Scrivener user; my drivers and hardware are all up to date, and none of these things happen in Microsoft, Adobe or any other software.

  1. When I mouse-click somewhere in the Editor, in single-document or Scrivenings mode, I never know what will happen:

20% of the time the cursor shows where I want it, and we’re away.
20% of the time the cursor doesn’t show but when I start typing, it turns out it was there after all
20% of the time the cursor appears at the beginning of the line, not where I wanted it
20% of the time the cursor doesn’t appear but when I start typing it turns out it was at the beginning of the line
20% of the time the cursor appears a few spaces/letters away from where I wanted it.

  1. When I click-and-drag to highlight some text, I never know what will happen:

25% of the time I get what I wanted highlighted, highlighted
25% of the time the highlight goes the other way from the direction I’m dragging in (no, not because I’ve slipped into the line above or below)
25% of the time what I’m highlighting disappears (this has caused some panic, as you can imagine!)
25% of the time the highlight shoots to the begining or end of the line, regardless of how I actually dragged the mouse.

I’ve done my best to test the circumstances under which each of these happens, but I haven’t established any rhyme or reason to why/when/where. I’m a professional author and dependent on being able to work fast and efficiently - but this makes it really difficult.

Can anyone help?
