“Modified Date” is an available column in the Outline view, and once enabled you can sort by it.
In addition, you can enable Outline view for any Collection or other subset of the project.

This has been very useful. Is there a way to cause containing Folders to be touched when contained Files are modified? As it is, the higher level Folders remain in their own temporal order, regardless of which of them contain recently modified files.
In one of my Projects, I have a Lexicon, indexed by first letters, each first letter in an individual Folder. Inside those Folders there are files for individual words, say ‘Intelligence’ under ‘I’. But there might be several files for ‘Intelligence’ grouped together. If I work in one of those lower level files, the Folder for ‘I’ will not sort to the top in the Outline; if I expand ‘I’ in the Outline, I will see the Intelligence files sort to the top.
Any ideas if it is possible to get the Folders to sort by Date Modified of contained Files?
