Scrivener is a real great software! But it would be even better if it works together with professional speech recognition software, and there is only one on the market: Nuance.
yes you can use Dragon Dictate, the OS X version, and Dragon NaturallySpeaking, the Windows version with scrivener but unfortunately there are a lot of problems as soon as you start to navigate and edit by voice: it’s what users call not having full text control, which means, that these speech recognition applications often loses control and then the cursor appears somewhere in the document, same with text you dictated. Of course, that is very annoying.
Now I was told that there is a free tool from Microsoft that can be implemented into applications so that they are ready for full text control. Ever heard of this? Ever considered to try this? Just imagine if you have full text control: you can {if you want} throw your mouse and your keyboard out of the window, you can simply do everything by voice! Scrivener and Dragon side-by-side, that would be a real step forward!
The OS X enhanced dictation system works that way. In Accessibilty options, you can configure the navigation commands you want…
Thank you, I know the dictation of OS X and yes, you can work with it a little bit. But to compare it with Dragon Dictate is like comparing a bicycle with a Cadillac {when you want to go on an highway}. However, this is the situation now. No one knows what is going on the next two or three years. There have been rumors months ago that apple engaged speech recognition experts and that in the Mac already works the speech recognition engine of Dragon. We’ll see what future brings.
However my first message was not about OS X, but about the tool of Microsoft that should be possible to implement in a software. And that concerns Dragon NaturallySpeaking {which by the way is even far far better than Dragon Dictate} and scrivener for windows. And believe me: bringing those two together is worth some thoughts!
The confusion arises because you’ve set your platform (for Scrivener) to Mac. So it’s reasonable to assume that you are using Apple products.
Sorry for that. But still looking forward for an answer about that tool from Microsoft.
