split with selection

if I highlight a chapter and then try and use ‘split with selection‘ in the file menu it remains greyed out. If I only select a few words it works. Is this correct ?

My previous question about defaults. I used the tutoria and lost a page or two, pressing the default button did not restore them,. I ahd had to download a new copy of the application.

From the Help file:

Split at Selection
Splits the current document in two at the insertion point (the blinking caret). The meta-data and notes for the newly created document will be identical to the original, but there will be no synopsis (you can always click on the three-dots button above the index card in the inspector to generate one automatically if you do not want to enter one manually). This command is extremely useful for chopping up long documents that you have imported into smaller fragments.

So, you need to click in the text so that Scrivener knows exactly where you want to chop the text.

RE “Restore defaults”, you seem to misunderstand this function. This restores the Preferences to their default state. It has no effect on a project. If you accidentally delete documents from a project, you will find them in the Trash in the binder.
