Square Bracket curiosity in Courier New 14pt

I haven’t tested this in all other fonts – many seem exempt from this quirk.

My standard front in Scriv is Courier New 14pt. In this font the opening square bracket “[” invariably misbehaves by always adding an apparent gratuitous space. Thus a repeated [[[ keystroke appears as [ [ [ .

No actual space is added, so that repeated three times will remove all the square brackets in the example above. It seems to be a quirk of the display interface, but is not a Cocoa, er, feature as it doesn’t happen in, eg, TextEdit.app. [LATER] Sorry, I’m completely wrong about this – the quirk with Courier New does appear in TextEdit.app.

Workaround: Use Courier Final Draft
