Stop Capitalisation on New Line

Apple’s support docs refer to a per-text Correct Spelling Automatically menu option (which is available in TextEdit etc)…

Note: To have the first word of a sentence and proper nouns (such as, California or Tim) automatically capitalized as you type, select the “Capitalize words automatically” checkbox in the Text pane of Keyboard preferences.

Turn off autocorrection
For a specific app: In the app, choose Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Correct Spelling Automatically (it’s off when a checkmark isn’t shown).

Have I misunderstood, or is this the per-text Correct Spelling Automatically option you mention in the quote above? If Scrivener included that option on the edit menu, would the auto-capitalisation be more likely to work, and allow users to have discrete settings for each project?
