Struggling with an attempt to install

Hi, there. I’m a Scrivener user on Mac OS and love it. I also love Linux Mint, and am running Linux Mint 14 - Cinnamon - on an intel i5-based machine. I’m having trouble getting Scrivener installed, which may be because I wasn’t successful in getting one of the beta Linux releases installed last night. I have removed all traces of that install, I think, but still can’t get 1.2.6 to go.

I tried to post on the 1.2.6 thread, but I’m getting no response and not sure what I can do next.

Here’s the output from the installation proces:

[code]Code: Select all
(Reading database … 152202 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking scrivener (from …/scrivener-1.2.6-beta.deb) …
dpkg: error processing /home/sarahr/Downloads/scrivener-1.2.6-beta.deb (–install):
trying to overwrite ‘/usr/share/applications/Scrivener.desktop’, which is also in package scrivener-beta 1.7beta-9
dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Processing triggers for bamfdaemon …
Rebuilding /usr/share/applications/bamf.index…
Processing triggers for desktop-file-utils …
Processing triggers for gnome-menus …
Errors were encountered while processing:
/home/sarahr/Downloads/scrivener-1.2.6-beta.deb

Scrivener-beta1.7beta-9 and Scrivener.desktop no longer exist on this machine, to the best of my knowledge, yet I can’t get past these errors to get 1.2.6 installed. Please let me know what I should try next. I really want to run this on my Linux box! Thanks!

(P.S. When one registers for this forum, there is an option for “Mac + Windows” and “Linux + Windows” as one’s platforms of choice, but there isn’t one for “Mac + Linux.” There should be, because I would have chosen it. Thank you!)

You might find installing Yakuake to be useful drop down command terminal. Then just use F12 to open/close shell.
But that is an aside.

From any terminal try the commands …
locate scrivener (i.e. with lowercase s)
locate Scrivener (i.e. with uppercase S)
to look for any legacy scrivener files to be purged before installing your latest deb package.

Cool - very helpful on both fronts. I’ll try the install again now that all the other junk is gone. Thanks!

…and I am now running Scrivener on this Linux box. BEAUTIFUL! Thanks!
