Hello,
I have one name for a charchter, but now decided I like to change the name of that character to a new personal name.
How do I easily change that name?
I am using the Comic Script template. And using “Character”.
Thanks in advance
Stefan

The Edit ▸ Find ▸ Project Replace...
tool will be the most useful approach, as it will go through everything in your binder at once. It has a number of options for setting how much of the text it will impact (even reaching into Snapshots). The best options for name changes will be case-sensitive and whole words. For scripts you may want the former setting, and run one or two batches, if the name is referred to with different capitalisations. For example in a screenplay the character name is announced as “MELINDA” for dialogue, but in cases where the name is referenced in action or spoken dialogue, it might be printed “Melinda”.
When using this tool, I always recommend creating a stand-alone backup first, because it can be enormously destructive with the wrong settings. Use File ▸ Back Up ▸ Back Up To...
, and set aside that copy somewhere convenient. Also note there is an option in the Project Replace tool to only impact selected items in the binder. In this way you can select one or two sections and run a test of your settings, easily proofed, before doing the whole thing.
After fixing the text, you can optionally go into Project ▸ Project Settings...
, and in the Auto-Complete List section, locate the old name, double-click on it to edit, and change it. If you don’t do that it will keep coming up as a suggestion when you type in “M” into character elements, but otherwise it’s not a big deal if you don’t, and the new name would be added to the list automatically once you use it.
Hi Amber,
Appreciate the help. It solved my issue.
Big thanks
