Styles in 3.0

Hello, Scrivener Team,

I recently upgraded to Scrivener 3 and many things have changed. One of those things is styles.

Formerly, if a set a style for text, for instance, that style would be used paragraph after paragraph until it was changed.

Now, I set a style and write a paragraph, hit return to begin a new paragraph and continue typing only to find the style has switched to some default style.

Can this be changed to act like it did previously? If so, how?

Thank you for your help,

Peter Giardina

Styles didn’t exist in Scrivener 2, so there’s no “previous” behavior to emulate. In Scrivener 3, “Next Style” can be defined when you create the Style.

Once you’ve formatted one paragraph to work the way you want, you can use the Project → Project Settings → Formatting pane to make it the default for this project, or Scrivener → Scrivener Preferences → Editing → Formatting to make it the default Scrivener-wide. We do not recommend using a “Body” style: most text should be unstyled.

If you haven’t already, I’d recommend taking a look at our upgrade guide for Scrivener 2 users. You can find it here:
