Subfolders in the Outliner

Hi there

I love Scrivener. But there is one thing that would help my productivity with it hugely.

I use the Outliner view for navigation. I select a top level folder in the binder and view its contents in Outliner. Inside the top level folder is a series of subfolders (usually representing Acts) inside each of which are Scrivenings for each of my scenes. When viewing the top level folder in Outliner I will open up in the editor the little triangles beside each Act’s subfolder so i can see the Scenes I am interested in. Then with the “Automatically open selection in other editor” button turned on I will use the Outliner editor to navigate to the scene i want to write, and i drag the scenes around in the Outliner to reorder them. Its a great method for outlining and planning and I’m sure its pretty typical.

What I would love though is for Scrivener to remember which subfolder triangle I have open when viewing a top level folder. Currently every time I bring up something different into the editor, when i reselect the top level folder to see the Outliner view again all the little subfolders are closed up again and I have to click through opening all the triangles again. Its no big deal once or twice but I am forever wanting to switch back and forth and would love the Outliner to just remember the status of each subfolder triangle.

Does this make sense?

Hi,

Thanks for the kind words. And yes, that makes perfect sense - but don’t worry, this is one of the many improvements that is coming with 2.0. I’ve already implemented it so this will definitely be in the very first 2.0 release.

Thanks and all the best,
Keith

Well I couldn’t ask for a better response than that  Thanks heaps. Now I just have to wait patiently for v2…
