I’ve been searching the forum about the “freeze” topic and I didn’t find an answer to my problem… I tried to turn of spell checking, lines in the inspector and that didn’t help till yet…
I’m typing in full screen mode and, all of a sudden (sometimes as I’m clicking, sometimes not), it freezes and I have to force quit Scrivener.
I’m working on an Intel Macbook (10.6.8) and my version of Scrivener is 2.1 (14118).
This problem may be related with the magic trackpad: it also started to occur with iAWriter and I think the freezing is “click related”.
I’ve been using Scrivener for years and never had any major problem… Anyway, for now, it seems to get better: I didn’t have to restart it since my last post.
Sorry to have left you hanging with no reply so far. I’m afraid I haven’t got much to add, as I’ve never heard of anything like this except in very isolated cases where we’ve never found the cause. If it’s started to happen in IA Writer, too, then that may indeed be a clue. I would recommend running a hardware test on your machine using the original disk to ensure that you don’t have any hardware issues that might bite you further down the line, to rule that out at least.
This whole stuff is pretty strange: I tried to repair authorizations and that kind of stuff, we’ll see. I also went through the hardware with CheckUp: everything seems OK (but the program warned me that I had very little RAM free, it may be part of the problem…).
Another thing you can try is running “Activity Monitor” (from the Applications/Utilities folder) or typing “top” into Terminal.app to see if you have any programs running in the background causing problems - startup utilities or suchlike. (One thing to look out for is leaving Flash-based web pages open in Safari.)
