(Apologies - this could have appeared in either the Mac or Windows support forums but seemed a better fit here)
I’ve been happily syncing Scrivener projects between Windows desktops and laptops for years using what is now Onedrive. I’ve now switched to a Macbook pro for my laptop and run into a brick wall trying to sync Scrivener projects between the Mac and my PC using the cloud. I’ve tried using both Dropbox and Onedrive and both seem to cause major problems, with the PC opening blank projects after I’ve edited them on Mac.
I realise this is a side-effect of the way Scrivener saves multiple files (probably along with a ton of other things I don’t pretend to understand) but is there any likelihood that this will be resolved in future versions or will the only reliable way of synchronising between Mac and PC be to use a USB disk/work from backups?
Actually, this should work fine - as long as Dropbox has synced correctly and all files have uploaded and downloaded, you should be able to open the same project on both a Mac and a PC, just as long as you ensure it is closed on one before you open it on the other.
After saving a project on my Macbook and waiting for it to sync on Dropbox, I then open up my PC (Windows 7) and wait for Dropbox to sync. Then I open Scrivener and try to “Open Existing Project” but nothing happens. Again, if I click on the project file in Windows Explorer, Scrivener opens but then nothing more happens.
Both versions of Scrivener and both OS are up-to-date
Ah … it seems to be working now. Onedrive had saved multiple versions of the project (from the laptop and PC) in the same folder for some reason. Now that I’ve deleted the extra versions, things seem to be running fine using Dropbox. Thanks for the help in any event.
Is it likely that Onedrive and Scrivener will be compatible in future?
That is really up to Microsoft. OneDrive, Google Drive and some others don’t work well with Scrivener’s package format. Dropbox has been fairly robust. Cubby is another free option some users like.
