Sync between two mac via Dropbox troubles

just to add some spice…
Does somebody (on Mac) use the new Dropbox beta, the one that almost forces your files under CloudStorage folder instead in your User folder?
Any difference in Scrivener behaviour?

Scrivener shouldn’t care, since it’s just a different location in the file system. Be careful with Recent Projects, though, and always look for the project in Finder directly if Recent Projects sends you astray.

but for instance ChronoSync is a way better?

As you say you have Dropbox working, that a better option PLUS required for sync to iOS.

I’ll thank you @rms but Dropbox is no more so reliable… are you on a Mac?

I am on Mac. Dropbox very reliable and has been for years. In use probably by millions of other people. I use the most current version for sync I am also testing their backup product which works fine.

I also use Chronosync but not for Scrivener. I would not even try but maybe it would work. Dropbox better.

and… do you use the new beta?
in my experience it doesn’t sync suddenly the Scrivener folder… I dont see updated files on iOS

No. No reason. If you are using could be the root cause of your issues.

but nowadays is almost impossible to avoid it… may I ask what versions (Mac OS, Dropbox) do you use?

Away from Global HQ again so cannot look. everything i run is latest versions of all.

Use of Scrivener with beta software is not supported and entirely at your own risk. As such, you should consult Dropbox for guidance.

If I had to guess, though, I would first look to make sure that the data is getting synced from your Mac to the Dropbox server, since that’s where iOS Scrivener will look for it.

That’s odd. For all these years using it, Dropbox never attempted to automatically install or nudge me in the direction of a beta.

Right from your linked thread:

this activigy is new since I briefly tried the beta version of DropBox.

Clearly this user chose to install the beta. I’m not a doctor, so I can’t tell if this could have been prevented, but it’s not Dropbox’s fault.

I got out of troubles reinstalling from scratch Dropbox, but DB itself pushes continuosly to update to the new way which BTW is the one established by Apple for all the CloudServices

Yes, this is to be expected (from the stable version at this time). That’s a completely different “problem”, not related to a beta version.

Yep. Go with the flow. It works fine. Makes really no difference from a user perspective. Just files stored somewhere else per Apple standards. If you don’t do it their way, it won’t work (as maybe you are funding out … dunno).

To the best of my knowledge, the stable version of Dropbox works fine with the new location and, as noted, switching to the new location is an Apple requirement.

For the last year or more, by far the most common cause of Dropbox sync errors has been Dropbox’s default setting to store files “online only.” More information about this setting can be found here:

AFAIK the new location is required only for new beta dropbox… am I wrong?

Yes, you are wrong. All users have to migrate sooner or later.
