Sync issues... again Windows to Ipad

So the blue triangle disappears after I clicked on my project, and said all synced… so I assume it’s synced across the board, including my PC. Here is another screenshot, to show my Dropbox App on my PC folders, and they are green, synced?, and the time of the sacredandhammer file (my project), the time has updated, but not the project when I open it, What am I doing wrong?

Just FYI - here is the screenshot that I get on my iPad AFTER I JUST already synced… then I press-touch my project file - and then I get yet another sync message - which then freezes my iPad file.

On the iPad you need to sync by tapping on the sync icon, the circular arrow in the upper right of the screen. You can’t just close the project and back out to the projects screen. The blue triangle with arrow pointing upwards tells you to sync. When you the open the project on the PC it doesn’t know that you didn’t sync the iPad to Dropbox. How could it? But as soon as you open the project on the PC there will be minute changes in some files, which will be uploaded to the Dropbox server and then when you open your iPad again it checks with Dropbox and realizes that you did something with the project on the PC, so it asks to sync.

One of the basic prerequisites for syncing to work with the current version of Windows Scrivener is patience! The other is discipline! You need to understand the very simple rules, the order in which to do things.

On the PC:
WAIT for everything to be uploaded to the Dropbox server. How long it takes depends on what you did in your project, the size of the documents edited and the speed of your internet connection. But you have to WAIT for the app to sync, so you get the green tick mark saying “Done!”.

On the iPad:
Make sure that everything is synced before starting to do anything, before opening any project. Scrivener tells you if things need to be synced.
When you are done, sync! Back out to the projects screen and see if any project has the blue triangle with arrow. If so, tap the sync icon and WAIT until everything is synced.

Back on the PC:
WAIT until your projects in the Dropbox folder are synced before you try to open any of them!

If you follow this procedure it will work, without problems. I have done this for quite some time by now and have never had any real hickups. So… patience and discipline!

I think you are confusing upload and download. Stop thinking of it as “sync” and think of it as what it is. The projects you have on the PC are uploaded, copied, to a hard disk on the Dropbox server. When you start Scrivener on the iPad Scrivener it checks if any of the projects has the change-flag set to yes and is so asks you to download a copy of the same project from the hard drive on the Dropbox server to the iPad Scrivener so you can work with it. When you back out of the project the blue arrow tells you that iPad Scrivener knows that you have done changes in the project that needs to be copied back (uploaded) to the Dropbox server.

How big is the project you are working on back and forth between iPad and PC? Really small or fairly big?

(my bold)

This is where your new series of posts started. That blue triangle-arrow doesn’t disappear until you have tapped the circular-arrows-sync-icon at the top right and waited until you get the message that everything is synced between iPad and Dropbox server. Opening the project again on the iPad doesn’t do any syncing.

Well, if you don’t want to get it sorted, then there is nothing we can do to help you.
But syncing between iPad and PC or Mac does work, that much I do know. I do it all the time.

About having green tick marks or blue circular arrows for the Dropbox files on a PC or Mac, well it partly depends on internet connection. If the PC has had time to sync everything, you turn it off, change files on another device, start the PC again but with no or very slow connection, it might not have had time to check the files on Dropbox and to realize they changed. So it hasn’t changed the green tick marks or synced because it doesn’t know of any changes.

Of course I want to get it sorted. But I’m just to embarrassed and upset that I can’t when I’m sure the answer is something so simple. I GREATLY appreciate yours and everyone’s time upon my issue. I just resolved to go back to the stone age, get back to writing, dispose of my frustration, and figure this out in another galaxy far away.
