As the title says. Right now the syncing happens only when I open the project, and that makes sense for I could have edited files on the disk with a txt editor. But it should sync when closing the project as well, for I could then need to edit the files into the external folder.
I had a look but didn’t find an option about that.
I’m on the Windows Beta, but External Sync works the same as the Mac.
There an option in the Sync Folder panel that controls this: “Check external folder on project open and automatically sync on close”. But that should already be checked by default, so maybe it’s not working correctly?
See the user manual section 14.3.1 Setting Up Folder Sync for more details, particularly Figure 14.1.
That option is checked, but I guess I found the thing.
It seems that if you close the project, the syncing happens, while if you just quit Scrivener it does not.
I had thought that closing Scrivener implied closing the project as well and then the syncing should go on, but I noticed that it only works when closing just the project.
Check your backup settings in Preferences. Wise settings include backup on close, backup on manual save, backup as zip, more than 5 backups, and include date and time in backup name.
And make sure you save the backups somewhere else than where you have your live projects. Preferably synced with another cloud service.
And make sure you have a normal backup system going on your Mac, like Time Machine. Then you should be safe if anything really bad happens to your Mac
