Sync with Index Card...again...

I asked this question three years ago, and I was told that all features in the Mac Version would be coming to the Windows version. Like I said, that was 3 years ago.

We still do not have the ability to sync to Index Card on iOS like the Mac people do. And while I am a professional developer and could write the translation myself (and looked into doing it), the file structure for Scrivener projects doesn’t exist completely in the project directory.

Example: I made a project with a folder, put two cards in it without any text, but with titles and synopses. Nowhere do those cards appear in the directory that hosts the Scrivener project.

I would like to know a) when is the export feature going to be available; b) when is the iOS version going to be available (because that was last heard of back in 2013); and c) who can I contact to get the technical details so that I can write this damn translation myself.

I hope someone on this board will be able to give me real answers instead of “windows is 5 years behind blah blah blah our developer had a family emergency blah blah blah” It’s been three+ years I have been waiting for this stuff.

There has been a change of plans, and the Windows version will not be getting Index Card sync at all, in fact; this is because it will be removed from the Mac version in the next major update too. Instead, we’re focussing on syncing with our iOS version, which will be out later this year (no set date yet; it’s in testing but has a number of bugs we need to iron out before it hits public beta). Unfortunately, as a small company, it’s not possible to maintain sync with multiple software packages whose file format we have no control over and which changes frequently. However, I have provided Dennis from Index Card with the specifications for the Scrivener file format, and he will be providing the ability to export to .scriv format from Index Card.

The file structure for Scrivener projects does all exist within the project directory. The .scrivx XML file stores the entire structure of the binder, all titles and meta-data. The files in the Files/Docs folder contain textual content only.

Not sure if that’s “blah blah blah” enough for you.

I have to say that is the most coherent answer I have ever gotten from L&L. Thank you.

I really hope the iOS version is coming this year. I have to find a portable solution for NaNo, even if that means writing the whole 50,000 on my iPad.

I’m glad that was helpful, and I’m sorry about the change of plans regarding Index Card and that you have been waiting so long. The iOS version is definitely coming this year. It’s feature complete and in the internal beta and bug fixing stage, and if we feel there are still too many bugs outstanding at the end of this week - given that the bug-fixing/internal beta stage has taken much longer than we had hoped - we will be hiring an external coder to help us blast through the bugs for a month to ensure things don’t keep dragging on.

I hope you wont remove the “Sync with Index Card” until the iOS version is released!
