Syncing and Backup Files

I’ve just set up my Scrivener App to sync my projects with Scrivener on macOS. I notice that I don’t have a backup file facility on my iOS devices that I do in macOS. Does that mean if there is a corruption whilst using my iOS device that it may corrupt the original file. Just how does it work?

Take a look at the article Literature&Latte has published at Guide to Keeping iOS Projects Backed Up / iOS / Knowledge Base - Literature and Latte Support

Also remember that if you end up with a corrupted project (caused by iOS, macOS, or thick fingers ) you’ll have your macOS Scrivener backups and (hopefully) your TimeMachine (or equiv) backups to help with getting back to where you want to be.

Thank you

FWIW, the most common sync-related “corruption” I see these days is on the Mac side. Specifically, Dropbox by default only downloads to the local system “on-demand,” which means that some components of a project may not be available when Scrivener looks for them. More information and instructions to avoid the problem can be found here:

iOS Scrivener uses the Dropbox API to manage its own upload/downloads, so it avoids this issue.

The best advice I can give is to address any potential data loss issues promptly. I’ve seen too many people who seem to hope the problem will some how “go away,” and by the time they realize it won’t, all their backups are corrupted too.
