I’m writing a play and have finished the first act. The tab formatting worked fine in that act.
When I pressed ‘new document’ to start act two I didn’t change the script setting format that I used in act one.
But as I began to write in the new document (act two) the dialogue that went over one line moved the cursor to the left margin.
I’ve probably not explained this well but have added screenshots which I hope clarifies things.
I’'ve tried many times to delete and rewrite but the same thing happens. When I check the first act and write more dialogue it works fine. I’ve checked and the script setting formatting is identical in both. The element is general text.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
martin.
You mention the general-text element. [1] By default, general text doesn’t have a left indent. [2] Your image is of character & dialogue, not general text.
If your characters are talking, users would conventionally select character & dialogue to get the most out of Scrivener’s formatting and structuring features, not general text. Is the first file using a different element?
You can create a general-text element with a left indent, if you want to.
Here are 3 screenshots from act one in which the dialogue tabs work fine.
And here’s 3 screenshots from act two (the dialogue isn’t what it will be - it’s just nonsense I’ve written! )
The extraordinary thing is that I’ve not change any of the settings since my first post but now the dialogue tab is in the correct place when the dialogue continues into a second line.
I very much enjoy working in Scrivener - I use it for stage plays and novels, also a work journal I keep - but I do find it very sophisticated and there’s a whole wealth of things that I probably don’t need to use and certainly don’t understand. But then I’m ancient and started writing as a small child on something called the John Bull printing outfit skooldays.com/blog/john-bull … ng-outfit/
I also very much appreciate your patience and consideration and wisdom in guiding me to the correct way to solve the several problems I’ve come up against since beginning my Scrivener experience.
Much thanks,
martin.
p.s. I’m not sure all 6 screenshots have been included when I checked preview. Please let me know if they’re are some missing and I’ll send them again.
