Tabbed Binder

I’m getting very used to the new bits and bobs in 2.0 and loving them, but there’s still one think I would really love to see.

A tabbed binder, here’s how it would work (If it existed) and how I would use it.

Tabbed binder

You can create your own custom tabs within the binder, they sit at the top and nothing can sit above them (EG collections). If you don’t create any, the binder is 100% as it is now in 2.0 (IE pretty damn perfect)

Each tab becomes a unique “window” into the binder, and therefore remembers what is expanded, what is closed, whether the collections are visible etc, possibly even style settings (Hmmmm not sure on that one)

The tabs could be labeled, but there would not always be room to show them, so custom colours and icons would be needed I’d guess.

You’d probably also need a preferences setting or two to manage it correctly, such as:

  • Synchronise binder settings across all binder tabs yes/no (That’s my Hmmm option)
  • Refresh collections on switching binder tabs (So your filtered view is always “live”)

I would definitely use the following tabs, and probably no more.

  • Draft (Shows my draft view)
  • Draft exp (Shows everything expanded)
  • Library (Shows my library folder hoisted)
  • Characters (Shows my character folder within the library hoisted)
  • Locations (as characters)
  • Items (As characters)
  • Collections (Shows the list of collections)

Each tab would be a narrow point to click, but with colours and icons it would still be clear and I would use keyboard shortcuts to switch between them (Maybe custom key combos…?)

This feature would save me a lot of vertical scrolling and even expand / un-expand when I’ve got a lot of folders expanded, as if i wanted to quickly go and add a new item I can keyboard switch tabs and back quickly.

Sound useful to anyone else?

Use to achieve that?

No, that doesn’t work. I use layouts already to preset widths etc for use with other apps, but it doesn’t save what is open / closed / hoisted in the binder, so doesn’t allow me to switch between different versions of the binder, only between different sizes of the same binder.

That would have been a nice solution if it worked

I’m using the favourites window to get me halfway here. I can select a favourite and then “reveal in binder”.

It would be great if I could do a reveal from within the favourite floating window, but it’s a really small thing.

Sorry, I won’t be considering any wish list items until next year - I’m still finishing and bug fixing about a billion refinements.
