I remember a while ago, in the vicinity of one of the elite educational institutions of this nation, hearing a student say: “I didn’t do the reading before that class, so I wung* it.”

But maybe that was an aberration.

Nope! I’m 16 and I’ve heard that phrase used as long as I can remember. I live in Maine. Which reminds me.

Then I moved to Maine 40 years ago, where everythang is happening either right now, or a very long time ago. “I see you when I come by. I hear you get done up to the plant. (You no longer work for the sardine packer.) Ain’t it you lives up there where the meeting house used to be?” (The Meeting House burned in the War of 1812.)

I was going to provide an example of the Maine dialect, but you nailed it! Some other important words used around here are “bub”, “bubland”, “wicked”, and “chook” (chicken, though I’m sure many of you know this). “I says to him” is a common phrase. It’s a very annoying dialect- very unintelligent sounding.
