Text width changes from document to document

My documents within a chapter do not match in text width.
I insert a new document by right-clicking within my binder and going Add > “Add text”.
In some docs, I get around 18 words per line (12pt Times Roman), and in others the whole text area is narrower with around 11 words per line.
I use the same method of adding them, yet they alternate between wide and narrow text areas.
Any idea why?
Thanks,
Caro

Two things to check are to make sure zoom is same from file to file and are pages all the same font. If not a lot of special fonts pick two files with different spacing and convert both documents> default font and see if that fixes it

Thanks for responding GD. The zoom is the same. Doing the default font thing corrected the width issue, but changed the font to Sitka, single line spacing. Once I selected the text and made it Times Roman, with double spacing, it was good again.
But I’m still not sure why it’s happening in the first place. Do I have to set every document manually?

Set your default font in project settings by choosing text from preferred text style then click manuscript and Ctrl+a and once all doc selected then do documents >convert to default font then all will be uniform spacing

The default font option is greyed out for me. My only selectable option there is covert “to legacy indentation”

Here is a full walk-through on setting default formatting and applying it to existing documents.
