I have that issue on my laptop but the folder within the resources folder “…vcpp
runtime\vcredist_x86.exe” does not exist. The “vcppruntime” folder is not there, I mean. And I am getting a similar message to the one in the readme file but without the vcppruntime folder, how do I fix it? I wanted to add that I do not get this message on my desktop (I switch back and forth between the two computers often) and it also does not have the “vcppruntime” folder.
I could be wrong, but I think the suggestion of looking for a scrivener\resources folder containing a vcppruntime subfolder is out of date… perhaps from back in the v1.5.x days…
I think the following, from the readme for the latest 1.7.0.2 beta, is probably the current way of dealing with this… To be clear, I’m not recommending for or against installing 1.7.0.2, … this advice should work for versions 1.6.x and on, I think.
“TROUBLESHOOTING
If Scrivener fails to launch and the following Windows error message
appears:
“This application has failed to start because the application
configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this
problem.”
Or if an error message pertaining to “side-by-side” errors, then
this is due to the Microsoft Redistributable C++ Runtime not being
installed on your machine correctly. This is easily fixed by downloading
the 2010 Microsoft Redistributable C++ Runtime service pack 1 update here:
microsoft.com/en-au/download … px?id=8328
After downloading double-click the Microsoft executable and follow the
installer prompts to install the missing Microsoft Redistributable C++
Runtime files. Then re-boot Windows and try running Scrivener again.”
As far as whether it is currently installed, rather than trying to find a related folder, I would suggest going into Control Panel > Programs and see if it shows up in the list of installed apps, as for example, as something like…
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable - …
If not present, install as recommended above.
If present, perhaps uninstall via/there in the Control Panel > Programs, then reinstall as recommended above.
Either way, reboot when done, then try Scrivener.
Hope that helps.
