Thistle roots

I was thinking about the need for writers to pay their dues and was reminded that it takes 20,000 centimeters of root system to support a 60 centimeter thistle.

Think on it!!!

Are you quite sure about that figure? That’s two hundred metres of root system…!

As far as I know. I was being conservative to make the point that it takes a lot of hard work to make a story. And just for your info - not wanting to be pedantic, the length of root tissues in a single rye plant is around 380 miles!

The surface area of Hemingway’s brain was about 2,500 square centimeters - so is mine. I’d still prefer to read Hemingway. Maybe size doesn’t matter. It is what you can do with what you’ve got that counts.

So a LOT of work to make a writer.
