I’ve been using Scrivener for a couple weeks on a school project. Here’s a list of feature-requests/bugs/issues I’ve found:
- Outline view: I’d like to see a “New document as child of current one” option, and in the binder as well. The “type” column should default to being just wide enough for the icon.[/]
[]Auto-capitalization is annoying sometime. When I try to type filenames with extensions, it capitalizes the extenstion. It should at least wait for a period and a space before capitalizing, but it would still interfere with acronyms. Ideally it would give up once I override it.[/]
[]Opening projects was tricky at first. When I first clicked on a .scriv folder in the open dialog, I expected that to open the project. It’s not clear you have to further click on the .scrivx file. I don’t know if that’s explained somewhere where I missed, but it threw me off.[/]
[]It would be nice if the default synopsis for a document was a sample of the main text. That would be enough to give me a good idea of what was in the document without having to type anything extra.[/]
[]The scratchpad is not persistent between openings of the project. I don’t know if that’s on purpose or not, but I would like it to be saved.[/]
[]Could the boundary between documents in Scrivenings mode be made less obtrusive?[/]
[]When I start typing at the beginning of a document, by hitting Enter and going back up to the top, the font reverts to Ms Shell Dlg, 8pt, which is annoying.[/]
[]I have a Lenovo thinkpad with a little track stick, with which I’m supposed to be able to scroll, but it doesn’t work in Scrivener. I don’t know how much can be done about that, but I would like it to work.
If I should post some of these to the bug forum or something or otherwise split this into manageable chunks, I can do that, but I didn’t want to take all of them there when they might not be actual bugs. On the whole, I’ve greatly enjoyed Scrivener, and will almost certainly buy it when it comes out next year.
ps: speaking of bugs, the bbcode editor here added a spurious “=” to the list tag; I had to take it out to get it to format right.
