three step timeline

Everything about Scrivener I love, especially the ease of use. The only problem I have with it is that everything I write I have to make timelines. Story Mill is the only product I have seen that has a three step timeline. By that I mean facts running horizontal, vertical, and with a pull line that can be moved and placed with text at the top, running through the entire timeline in a vertical line. I hate to have to buy another program for one function. I am tired of having to make up my own versions of timelines to use. I noticed you said on another post it would just be a third wheel of problems or whatever you said… sorry if I am misquoting. Do you have any suggestions or future plans for some kind of timeline?

Hi,

No, there are no future plans for any kind of timeline at the moment. Such a feature just wouldn’t integrate with the rest of the app - as you say, it would be a kind of “third wheel”. There’s a fundamental conceptual difference between a hierarchical-based system (such as Scrivener’s) and a timeline-based one. There’s no way to map changes made to one in the other, because of these fundamental differences, which means that you’d be left with two unconnected modes, and you’d have to update them just as separately as you would two different programs. (My favourite timeline implementation is the Storylines one in Writer’s Café, but even that wouldn’t work with the rest of Scrivener.)

Thanks,
Keith
