ToC goes to wrong chapters

Hi there, recently started using Scrivener, and definitely a big fan!

If this has been asked and addressed already, then I apologize, but I’m having an issue with creating a table of contents for an ebook. At first, when I compiled a document, I would also include a generated table of contents (based off the name of my folders in my manuscript.) The problem is when I preview the document in either a kindle or iBooks, some of the links in the table of contents go to a completely wrong chapter. I have manually tried as well to create a table of contents by creating Scrivener links to specific chapters, but still run into the same issue. Has anyone else ran into this issue, and if so, what solutions have you found?

Much obliged!

How did you create the ToC?

I used two different methods. First method I used was Scrivener’s auto table of content generator when I compiled the ebook. I also made sure the proper HTML settings were selected. Afterwards, I tried manually creating a table of contents by copying the different chapters as Scrivener links, and pasting them.

No luck either way. When I created the manuscript, I used the fiction template, and made some pages as “front matters”, so I wonder if that may have thrown something off.

There are two simple ways of creating toc for ebooks.

  1. Simply tick the box in Compile settings (make sure you see all settings, not the summary)
  2. Select the titles in the Binder you want in the toc, click Edit, Copy as Table of contents, and paste into an empty document.

If you want more details, check the manual. There is a good explanation there.
