NOTE: This thread used to be titled, “Please DO NOT post technical support questions here,” but it had no effect whatsoever and no one read it. So, now I have your attention, please read the below before posting in this forum…
Hi all,
Just a reminder that, as it says in the topic description, if you have questions or things you need help with, please post them in the “Technical Support” area of the forum:
Please do not post questions in this forum.
The “Tips & Tricks & FAQ” area is intended for users to share tips, and for the answers to frequently asked questions to be posted. The main reason I ask you not to post questions, other than to keep this forum tidy, is that neither myself nor the other L&L crew members check this forum as often as we do the Technical Support, Feedback, Bug Hunt and Wish List forums, so if you ask a question here it may be missed or you may be left hanging for a while, and we don’t like people to be left hanging.
Thanks to everyone who has been sharing ideas and useful tips on this forum!
Uh-oh… so… is a question about syncing between multiple computers a technical question or a usage scenario?
there were no fonts injured in making that question, nor were any kernings tested and no compile settings had to be made, so it’s not technical, right?
Strictly speaking, I’d say it goes in the Tech forum, since it’s a question, not a tip or an answer. Also because I know there are lots of threads about syncing between computers in the Tech forum, so it seems like it’d be at home there.
Anyway. I love the stratagem, Keith. I popped in the Tips & Tricks and saw it and thought…that’s different…but it’s from November…what happened to the “Please Don’t Post” thread? Heh. I hope it works! Who can resist prying into top secrets?
shhhh! I was pretending to have read the former post!
I later found that giant thread, and upon reading it, realized that I had posted in that other thread, and still not really understood that what that thread was talking about was what I was later asking here. I can’t really blame vodka, nor scotch, nor beer. It was just plain, “I didn’t get it”
I still don’t see how that’s not a usage thing, but you didn’t let me hang out to dry either, so it was all good. I’m still also not sure why apple never really allowed us to link to shared network drives and make them sync when connected… that other OS seller does things like that, figure apple could do it better.
I didn’t doubt you had! It was a usage question, rather than a question about kerning or fonts, granted, and so it doesn’t seem a tech question in the sense of being about how to make something work in the program. But in general, it’s better to ask questions regarding Scrivener in any sense over in the Tech forum, since more people browse that more frequently with the expectation of finding the questions-that-need-answering there. So I’d post it there. But notice that neither Keith nor Ioa moved your post to that forum, so…
Oh goodness, don’t let’s get started on all the ridiculous things Apple doesn’t do. Like understand the concept of renaming aliases in the Finder sidebar without renaming the actual folder.
Maybe you should change to forum name to “Scrivener’s Tutorials and Tips” or something. Looks like more than half of the first page are questions. Of course, then the forum will be a lot quieter…
