Total Confusion with Chapter Numbering

I have written three chapters of a novel. In the Compile Manuscript option I have included the command ‘Jones / Book Name /<$p>’ to generate automatic page numbering in the Header of each page and this works fine. However, I would also like to include the chapter number in this Header so that after compiling I have for example.

Jones / Book Name / Chapter 1 / Page 1
Jones / Book Name / Chapter 1 / Page 2
Jones / Book Name / Chapter 1 / Page 3
Jones / Book Name / Chapter 2 / Page 4
Jones / Book Name / Chapter 2 / Page 5
Jones / Book Name / Chapter 2 / Page 6
Jones / Book Name / Chapter 3 / Page 7
Jones / Book Name / Chapter 3 / Page 8
Jones / Book Name / Chapter 3 / Page 9
etc …

Can anyone please explain how I do this as I have read most of the posts and I am totally confused. All I want to do is write.

I cannot think of a way of doing this. The problem is, while you can address individual chapters by their number using named counters, the header and footer setting is global to the document. For example you could have a counter named:

<$n:chapter:chap_one>

Then later on in the text use that same counter code as a cross-reference, as in See chapter <$n:chapter:chap_one> for more information. But if you placed that code into the header setting, you would just get continual references to chap_one on every page.

For this problem, it looks like you’ll need to use a word processor or page layout program that supports such a feature.
