Touchscreen scrolling

I’ve asked for this in the past, but I’d like to request again that Scrivener add touchscreen scrolling. Every Windows app I have allows me to touch the screen and scroll through my work. I know this adds additional coding work, but since this is a standard feature to almost everything, the lack of this feature is a distraction. (Being able to touch the screen versus having to align the arrow on the scroll bar and jerkily move through the work.) For years now we’ve been able to touch scroll through everything from available apps to Shakespeare’s sonnets on our phones and computers. Please consider adding this.

Hole two fingers to the screen and the text scrolls.

@Melina - I’ve recategorized this post, from Scrivener for iOS to Scrivener for Windows, as I believe that was your intent. If that’s not correct, please let me know.

You’re correct. Thank you.

Thank you for your response. Using two fingers does work, but it also selects random text. That is concerning because it’s too easy to delete or otherwise alter selected text.

Yup, this is a challenge. There are other threads on this, which I guess you’ve already seen. I suspect the app interface would need to be redesigned with touch in mind, which leads me to suspect we’re not going to see improvements any time soon.

It hasn’t been invented by the Mac crowd yet, despite their iOS/iPadOS cousins, or is it in spite of.

Sorry @RevoTiLlor, I don’t understand your post. :frowning:

Last I heard, Mac machines don’t have touch screens.
Scrivener development starts on Mac and is inherited by the rest. Hence, I wouldn’t expect the touch screen experience on Windows to receive attention.
It’s probably just there because the screen is touch responsive by certain Windows OEM partners on selective devices.
The rest of the post is a bit of an hyperbole.

Got it. Yup, 99% agree.

Only 1% quibble I have is ‘inherited by the rest’. My understanding is that design is shared across platforms, but actual code base is different. This is probably me being pedantic and you weren’t even speaking to that level. Ignore me if that’s the case.

As near as possible the UI is common between the platforms, but inevitably there are some differences because of underlying technologies. There is not a single line of shared code.

And yes, only iPhones and iPads have touch screens!

Thanks for this information, Mark. I’m a lifetime Windows user and didn’t know Apple computers don’t have touch screens. At this point touch screens on laptops seem like basic feature.
