Transfer files to upgraded version

I was wondering what is the easiest way to transfer all of my original work from the older version of Scrivener to the new download? Thank you for your time!

You don’t need to transfer anything. Just open the old file and Scrivener will offer to convert it to the new format. It will also create a backup of the original, in case you ever need to open it again with an older version.

Thank you! I didn’t know if there was a quick way to transfer everything or just opening files. I do have another question. Do I keep the older version of Scrivener or delete it? And if I am to delete it will the files still remain to open in the newer version or do I need to open all of my stuff in the new version and format them to it and then delete the older version? I have tons of files so I just want to make sure I do it right and don’t lose anything. Thank you for your help! I appreciate it.

You can keep the old version around, if you like. In fact, if you have any projects to be finished soon, you may want to do that in the old version, since Scrivener 3’s compile works entirely differently and you may need some time to get everything adjusted to your likings.

Scrivener 3 can open old files even if the old version is not on your computer.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer me! I am glad I asked, I have so much information in the old one I can’t lose bc it has taken me years to compile it. Have a great day!! Again I appreciate it.

It might not be a bad idea to go through the upgrade tutorial, which answers a lot of the questions you are asking, and may also be useful if you’re looking to compile any of these older projects any time soon.
