Transferring Old Files that Won't Open On Mac OS Catalina

I had to update my operating system today. Unfortunately I can no longer open any of my Scrivener files. If I update to the new Scrivener Will I be able to access those files?

Assuming you were running the latest version of Scrivener 2, then Scrivener 3 will make a copy of your project and then update it. It shouldn’t be an issue.

Since you weren’t running v3 before, you’ll want to look into how compile has changed; it’s a big change, but ultimately a lot more flexible. Most other things should be familiar, if a bit re-arranged.

Yes, you need Scrivener 3 if you are going to install Catalina. Apple has ended support for 16-bit applications like Scrivener 2.
