I use Windows and would like to compile a plain text version of my book to access on the iPad using PlainText. When I compile to a plain text file, apostrophes get changed into what looks like a small i with an accent mark above it, or some other weird character depending on which text editor I’m using. Is there a solution for this?
Have you tried changing the plain-text encoding you’re using? You should be prompted to choose this during compile. If your text editor wants a particular format, pick that; otherwise I’d try UTF-8 if you haven’t.
Thanks Jennifer! I figured out that my manuscript had “curly” apostrophes and quote marks, which were being converted into weird characters. I was able to solve the problem by having Scrivener convert them to “straight” apostrophes and quote marks during the compile and that fixed the problem.
