I’m running 10.6.8 on my Mac Mini. Downloaded the trial version, which took forever because of our slow connection here, and pulled the Scrivener.dmg file to my desktop. Double clicked and I got a Warning instead of the icon: “The following disk images couldn’t be opened: Scrivener.dmg Reason: not recognized.”
Any ideas? I also tried double clicking it from the download file; same result.
The most likely scenario is that the DMG download is damaged in some way. Please try downloading it again from http://www.literatureandlatte.com/download_mac.php, making sure that you choose the correct download for your version of Mac OS X. Then double-click on the DMG to open it, and drag the Scrivener icon to your Applications folder. You will then be able to open the application from your Applications folder.
If this still doesn’t work, the next possibility is that there might be something wrong with the DMG framework on your Mac. This can cause DMGs to fail, but it is unpredictable. Please try downloading Scrivener from this link instead, which provides a zip file rather than a DMG, and so uses a different framework: http://www.literatureandlatte.com/downloads/Scrivener_2.3.1.zip. To install from this zip file, uncompress it by double-clicking on it in Finder, then drag the Scrivener application to your Applications folder. You may discard the .zip file once this is complete.
