Hi! I am trying to import my thesis proposal into the Proposal Template. I’ve tried both Import and Split, and just regular import, and each time it says that Scrivener has a problem and needs to close, that Windows will look for solutions and notify when it finds one? 4 days away from first meeting with my committee chair and really need to get this updated. Is this something I’m doing wrong, or is there something I can do to make it work (even if it isn’t importing?) Document is relatively short at this point. Thanks in advance, Megan
Three things I’d try:
-
Resave the document as RTF in Word, then import that.
-
Change your import converters to use Word’s libraries; they may have better success dealing with whatever’s tripping up the default converters. In Scrivener, go to Tools > Options… and click the Import/Export tab, then the “Export Converters…” button. Select “DOCX” from the drop-down menu on the left, then “Microsoft Office” from the dropdown on the right. Do the same for “DOC”. Then go ahead and OK out of all that and try the import again with your original Word file.
-
Save a new copy of the original Word document and strip any extra styles from it–make it all body text or whatever your main style is. I don’t think they’re usually a problem, but I recall a while ago someone having trouble with a heavily styled document.
