Trying to open a .scrivx file on macbook and getting issues

Hi there,

I’m trying to open a .scrivx file on a macbook and am getting the following error:
".scrivx is the main structure file for a project, but other required files for this project cannot be found: the /Files/Data and /Settings folders are missing. I am trying to open a project from windows on a mac computer. Can anyone please help?

Hi.

It seems that you only transferred that one .scrivx file. (Which is the index that tells Scrivener what other files go where in the binder.)
You need those other files as well.
You have to transfer the whole project. The whole “package”, on Mac. The project’s folder on windows.

The best way to transfer between computers is to spawn a zipped backup from the source computer, then unzip it and load it in Scrivener on the second computer. This way you’re sure no files will be missing, or got corrupted.

Thank you - how would I go about doing this?

Did this project ever work? How was it created? Did you store it in the local folder of a “cloud” sync service, e.g. Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc.?

From the PC, use Scrivener’s File → Backup → Backup To command, and check the box to create a ZIP backup. Transfer it to the Mac by any convenient method, locate it in Finder, and double-click to Unzip. Then double-click on the resulting .scriv file to launch it in Scrivener. Reverse the process to transfer it back.
