Two requests from an inexperienced user.

Good evening!

For the past two hours, I’ve been scouring the web for a way to create custom meta-data in Scrivener for Windows. Unfortunately, it seems that there isn’t actually a way to do so, because all my search results indicated that it’s a task only Scrivener for Mac can perform. It just frustrates me that some of my search results dated back to 2010—it’s been two years, so maybe I’ve been looking in all the wrong places, but it seems like you guys still haven’t implemented the option for Windows users. If I’m mistaken (and, believe me, I hope I am!), would someone kindly show me the way to do it? I’d really appreciate it! It’s just aggravating for me to be unable to create my own column headers for my Outliner, you know? If I’m not mistaken, then I’d like to request that this task be made available for Windows users, too.

My second wish—and, again, I have no idea whether or not this already exists; my internet searches are negative, though—is for Staff to create an option for users to count highlighted words in any given document. Sometimes, I want to know the amount of words a specific paragraph contains, and I don’t want the rest of the page/other pages interfering with the number. MS Word has this option as a little clickable button with the word count for the highlighted sentence(s)/paragraph(s) showing up in a little dialog box next to it. It’d be fantastic if you guys could create something like that for Scrivener! (:

Thank you for your time! I absolutely love Scrivener so far; really grateful for all the hard work you guys put into it! (:
(And sorry if I came off as rude! Eep! )

You can already do selection based word/char counts. All you need to do is select some text and then right-click on it, you’ll find the selection stats in the contextual menu at the bottom. To quickly select a paragraph, triple-click anywhere inside of it.

Custom meta-data isn’t yet implemented. It is true that was released a couple of years ago on the Mac, but understand there is around a five or six year gap between the two products in terms of how long they’ve been in development. There are a lot of other things in the Windows version that have already been “caught up”, but the list obviously isn’t complete yet and we can’t do everyone’s favourite thing at once.

Oh! I never noticed that! Thank you so much!!! (I’d make that emoticon’s eyes pop out if I could, like this, hahaha —> 8D)

Ah, I see. So it’ll eventually be implemented in the future, right? I’ll definitely be looking forward to it! Thank you again, Amber.

With the exception of a few operating system dependent things, the idea is to get both versions as close to identical as possible going forward. This isn’t static software. Expect to see it evolve and grow—and if you want to see where that is heading you can check out the Mac docs.
