Ugh Chapter Titles

Ugh, every time I want ot go into the guts of Scrivener to make changes, I want ot run for the hills, for fear of doing something irreparable.

I just want to customize my chapter headings and have perused for clues, but my pop-up edit window won’t open for editing.

In the compile format designer, I have clicked the Chapter Heading to edit it, and the window pops up where you can make changes, change fonts, yada yada. It appears with highlighted areas and all, as if you can edit it. For all that is holy, it stays uneditable.

Before I pull my hair out, can someone just explain to me how to make my titles appear like this….

Hawaiian word for the number (colon) Chapter english word for number. Thatʻs it.

i.e.,

ʻEkahi : Chapter 1

I have gotten it to this point by titlng my sections:

Chapter One

ʻEkahi:

But cannot for the life of me get past that point and move the items a round.

Here is a mockup of what I think you want. I did it with custom metadata and put the placeholder in the chapter section layout you are using. It looks printed like this (ignore the separators, which were set up for a submission query to save space.

and the section layout is set up like this. I duplicated a section layout for chapters and manipulated it. (PS sorry captured an image of the cursor, not part of setup)

Doing this you must place the text for each chapter in the Custom metadata entry for the chapter folder.

Hope this helps and what you are looking for.
