Good night
Vic
I have received news of a severe financial setback this week. I will likely lose the house as a result.
I have made a request of my lender to begin the process of mortgage modification. Based on information from my counselor, my preliminary calculations do not look promising. I have at least bought myself some time.
If I should vanish without a trace, don’t take it personally. It’s me, not you.
jeezzz!! Kev,
Thats fierce bad news. Let
s hope the modification process bears fruit.
Good Luck Kev.

I had something of a breakthrough last night, and I think I’m past the difficult bit. I still have much that isn’t typed up, but suddenly I’m much closer to the end than I realized. An unusually large (for me) quantity of extra strong (9.5%ABV), and hoppy (50 lbs. per batch) beer needed to be consumed.
In other news, I think I’ll be taking on a second job in a couple of weeks. Not ideal, but it will go a long way towards easing my financial difficulties. Getting a life, however, will have to go back on hold for a time.
This sounds like a step in the right direction! Hopefully the trend will continue. Strangers tho’ we may be, have some good vibes, on me.
Here’s to your health, Sir …
Eddy
Although it only exists in chunks in my moleskine, the story now has a beginning, a middle, and an end.
Well done! That’s great progress, Kevin.
What’s the story on the house?
I too have been AWOL for a bit, and was drawn back by your post.
What Zoe means, Kev, when she says, ‘‘AWOL’’, is, ‘‘MARTINIWOL’’.
How come its all in your Moleskin and not in Scriv? At what stage will you start using Scriv? It’s got to be a big bonus for you, not having to wade through all that crap handwriting.
Did you get the mortgage sorted?
Did we get a YouTube, of the last five minute play?
Take care

I’m still waiting to hear back about mortgage modification, and a couple of applications for assistance. I don’t want to say much else for fear of jinxing things…
No posting of latest work yet. I must ask about that this Thursday night. I have dashed off the first draft this morning of a new script for the April cycle.
As far as writing goes, the early work goes into the moleskine because it’s very portable, and I don’t have a laptop. I often write away from home, and I try to keep a notebook and pen available at all times. I’ve got the first half of the story in question inside Scriv now.
I’ve done a re-write of the script after last night’s run-through at the No Shame workshop. I think I’ve got all the bits that I knew I were missing, plus a couple of good suggestions from the crewe. I think I can let it rest a while.
It’s called F. N. G. It’s about a new guy’s first night at work. Inspired by a listing on the work schedule at the pub.
“What’s FNG stand for?”
“F*****g New Guy!”
I have made some progress on the actual short story, and I have less than two thousand words to type up now.
Morning Kev
That’s good going, mate. Will that be it finished: finito! or the first draft.?
When you say, ‘Short Story’, how many words is it? How do you define, short story, in terms of max number of words? Last time I came across the definition, it was, 7000 words +/- a semi colon, three comas and an exclamation mark.
The consensus seems to be, that to write short stories well, you,ve really got to be on top of your craft. The last one you wrote: sharing a spacecraft with an alien, I thought was very well done. I’m looking forward to reading your latest offering.
Take care
Vic
The story will not exceed 7000 words. Up to 7k is a distinct category at the SF mags. It is a challenging length, but when it’s done well a story really cracks.
It will be finito, as the first draft (such as it is) lives in the moleskine. It’s Guy-Shi’s ninth adventure. I’ll put up a link once I’ve got it on oort-cloud.org. I’ve done some work on the tenth adventure, but I’ve got to start over because I think it would be better to go back to third person for that one.
It felt good yesterday afternoon. I hit the Alpha state for the first time in months.
I haven’t lost the house yet, but I don’t want to say any more for fear of jinxing things that are in the works. And I really should be off to bed now.
6,611 words. I’ve still got some proofreading to do, and and a few minor edits to the older bits. But the story now lives in Scrivener.
Now appearing at oort-cloud.org in klc’s blog.
Yo Kev,
In Adv.9, I notice Guy-Shi, now seems to be a regular member of a team of fighter pilots, whereas in Adv.8, he came across as a lone wolf, Jedi Knightish/Mr Fixit, kinda guy (Guy). Have you done a character revamp?
Take care
Vic
Each adventure places Guy-Shi in a different universe. Yet there are also similarities that he notices, which give him a sense of continuity.
His fighter group, his mothership… they exist, but they don’t really figure into the story. All the Guy stuff happens on the planet, and when he’s done with that it’s time to move on, returning the body he borrowed to its’ original owner.
I’m trying to write at least one more of these, as I’ve done a fair amount of preliminary work. It will be quite different from 8 and 9. I’m going back to third person, and there will be no interplanetary interceptors.
