Unable to make lists in Scrivener

For some reason, Scrivener is not allowing me to make lists. The dropdown in the style bar is greyed out, and if I click it, it shows all the different list/bullet styles, but they are all greyed out too. The same happens if I use the top menu, click “Format,” and then “Lists.” It’s not a huge issue, but I’m trying to use bulleted lists to make my outlining a little more organized, and currently, I’ve been forced to use dashes and indents (which work but just don’t look as nice). Any suggestions?

Is the document that you are in in Scriptwriting mode?

No, I’ve actually tried toggling between the modes. I’ve created multiple projects, it’s the same across all of them, even the tutorial. And doing a Google search, I haven’t seen anyone run into the same problem (or at least talk about it on the internet). I’m lucky it’s not a dealbreaker for me, but it’s a bit annoying.

Oh, I am using the trial version so far, but I didn’t read anything about that limiting features or anything so I hadn’t considered whether that’s the issue or not.

Make sure that the cursor is in the Editor pane, and that you’re in text editing (not Outline or Corkboard) mode.

No, that shouldn’t be it. There is no loss of functionality in trial mode.

Are you using Big Sur? If yes, lists don’t work with the current beta. An updated version of Scrivener is scheduled for soon after Big Sur’s public release.

Ah, shoot. Yep, that’s it. That’s what I get for signing up for the beta :stuck_out_tongue:

I made an account for this - it was driving me nuts - and I also just upgraded to Big Sur. LoL
Can’t wait for the new release of Scrivener then. Until then, #TAB*
