unable to open colleague's Scrivener project

Hi - I bought Scrivener this week in order to work on a colleague’s Scrivener project as she is sick. I have been unable to open it . A pop-up says this is because it was created using a later version of Scrivener. Yet when I try to update, I get a message saying Scrivener is up to date.
I am using version 1.9.9.0 release date 3 October 2018.

Your colleague is either using a Mac or the beta version of Scrivener for Windows, i.e version 3

If they’re using a Mac, they can use the File -> Export -> as Scrivener 2 Project command to export the project in a format you can use.
