Unable to start Scrivener or mount 1.11 dmg

Scrivener has been working fine for me up until trying to update today. It crashes immediately upon launch now. I tried to download the latest version from the website to reinstall, but the dmg will not mount (I get the error “codec overrrun”). Any ideas what could be going on or where I can get a previous version to roll back to for now? Thanks.

Have you tried rebooting? A codec overrun is a sign of a problem with the computer - a hard disk error - which is usually fixed upon rebooting, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the quick response! I did try rebooting to no avail. The disk image still won’t mount, although I can mount other disk images with no problem. I did try re-downloading the image in Safari and Firefox to make sure it wasn’t incomplete.

I’m just not sure why this coincided with the application itself suddenly failing to launch. No other applications are giving me trouble, so I’m not quite sure what’s going on. Any other suggestions would be very welcome, as I love Scrivener and would like to get back to writing as soon as possible!

I don’t know if this will help, but I’ve just had exactly the same error message on a copy of the 10.4.11 updater that I transferred from my MacBook Pro to my old PowerBook using a USB drive. When I first inserted the drive a message came up that it hadn’t been ejected properly.

So it’s definitely a disk problem. I would use Disk Warrior or equivalent, or boot with your system DVD and run a disk repair from it, followed by repairing permissions. See what happens then.
