Update to Scrivener 3 - Chapter & Scene Meta Data Not Available. Cannot Compile Properly

I recently updated from Scrivener 1 to Scrivener 3 for Windows and I am so confused! I have 4 novels that I need to update, but I can no longer set my folders as Chapters or my texts as Scenes. The only options I am being given are Heading or Section. As a result, my ebook compilation looks terrible and there is nothing I can do to fix my Table of Contents.

I have been watching & reading tutorials & it seems that the Chapter and Scene meta-data should be available. When I wrote these books, I set them up in the Novel Template in Scrivener 1. Is that where the issue is stemming from?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Click “edit” at the bottom of the drop down list.
You have to manually add new section types there.
You’ll then be able to reproduce the assignation you had before.

On the other hand, I think that there is a way this could be done automatically.
There should be a function to import/convert V1 projects rather than to just open them in V3, and, unless I’m wrong, it takes care of that for you.
@kewms

Scrivener 3 will convert the format of Scrivener 1 projects automatically, but it isn’t always able to interpret Scrivener 1 Compile settings to figure out what you actually want to accomplish.

I’d recommend looking at our upgrade guide, which was created for exactly this purpose. You can find it here:
